Lafcadio Hearn: "I do not invent my stories. I get them from the Japanese life - facts told in papers, facts told to me by pilgrims, travelers, servants - facts observed in travelling myself"


Hearn lived in Japan for 14 years and while he was there begane to detest the influence that Western Culture was having on the traditional values of Japan.  Seeing the changes he wrote "Glimpses of Unfamiliar Japan"  this book is not merely a collection of stories.  It is a defence of the traditional folkways of Japan.
